The City of Covington, Kentucky, has been in five rented city halls in the last fifty years. Today, with the city growing and an eye toward the future, the Mayor’s Office assembled a 16-person Task Force to engage the broader community and develop a visionary Look Book that outlines the principles for a future City Hall and Civic Commons. YARD & Company was commissioned to guide the Task Force, organize the public engagement and create the Look Book. The public engagement included surveys, Task Force Experience Journals to document life in Covington’s public spaces, Staff Journals to capture the interactions amongst City departments and with the public and a Civic Commons Summit featuring national experts on civic design.
