OpenNorfolk

YARD & Company joined Work Program Architects and Team Better Block to lead the development and operations of two “Neighborhood Spots” in Norfolk, Virginia, as part of a larger COVID-19 reopening strategy. The goal of the Neighborhood Spots is to activate underutilized neighborhood spaces by providing a safe location for kids and families to come together amidst community center, library and school closures. YARD’s role was the design, build-out, operations and management of the two spaces throughout the summer until schools can safely reopen.

This project was awarded the Congress for New Urbanism’s Charter Award in 2021.
